More Than Clothes
On April 19, 1997 Positive Images Enterprises, Inc. opened its doors. The non-profit organization was founded by Senator “Mandy” Dawson, whose original mission was to assist women in need. We work with men, women and youth. We have served over 15,000 men and women since we have been established. We are fortunate to have sizeable donations from organizations, such as the Men’s Warehouse, TJX Foundation and individuals. Individual donations should be clean, gently used and on hangers. We are always in need of plus sizes for women and extra tall for men.
Volunteer opportunities are offered in our boutique, our administrative office, and our mentoring program. We conduct one-on-one counseling to men and women.
In 2004 we expanded to Miami Dade County to include providing transitional housing for homeless women in North Miami. We provide a safe environment for women who live in our facility. Many of them come from incarceration. Their experience varies. Some have been in prison for a short period of time, and others for 30 years or more. Some have substance abuse issues that need to be addressed, and others may have post traumatic stress as a result of domestic violence, physical and/or emotional abuse. Some come with various disabilities. We meet weekly to train our women to be safe and to prevent issues that may affect them later in life. Job readiness and career development counseling is conducted daily both one-on-one and in groups. Referrals are made to appropriate agencies.
Our Mission
To Empower women, men and their families to become self-sufficient. This is done by providing resources such as, clothing banks, HIV prevention workshops, HIV testing, pre-release and aftercare program, and faith-based substance abuse transitional housing program.
Our Clients
